Musical lovers, movie buffs and Swifties rejoice! The highly anticipated trailer of Cats, a big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical has finally dropped a trailer. Starring talented artists, actors and dancers like Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Dame Judi Dench and more, the movie looks promising, and 100% fur-tastic! But before we start off judging the trailer, a little bit of background is important.
What is Cats?
Cats is a broadway musical which first premiered on 11 May, 1981 at New London Theatre, London, UK. It won the Lawrence Oliver Award for Best New Musical and three Tony Awards. As of 2018, it is the fourth longest running Broadway show.
Now, after 38 years, it has been reimagined as a live-action movie, based on poems by T S Eliot like the original musical. The trailer for the movie dropped on Thursday and was met with mixed reviews. Some people fangirled over Taylor Swift’s appearance as the hottest cat in town, while found it worthy of recurring nightmares.
About the movie
The movie features popular actors and singers, but that’s not all. It also has famous dance stars like the Les Twins ( Beyonce’s featured dancers) and Francesca Hayward (a main dancer in the Royal Ballet). It includes choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, who has worked on Broadway shows like Hamilton, In the Heights and Bandstand. In the trailer, we see singers and movie stars covered in digitally enhanced fur, dancing in a larger than life set and singing their hearts out.
