Boys Locker Room is an Instagram Chat group from South Delhi. The members of the group have been accused of sharing photos of underage girls. The Boys locker room chat group was exposed on Sunday for repeatedly sharing photos of their classmates without their consent and passing sexually explicit comments on them. Most of the members are from Class 11 and 12. Students of four or five schools in south Delhi are believed to be involved in this chatroom.
Boys Locker Room Chats
Their conversations revolved around sexual assault against their classmates and body shaming other girls. The screenshots include many instances where morphed photos of minor girls have been shared by the group members.
In one of the conversations, a guy is convincing the other members of the group to gang rape one of their classmates. The above screenshot shows a conversation between two people where a boy makes a plan about raping a girl and glorifying gang-rape.
When did it become viral?
The screenshots went viral when some of the victims shared their chats on social media and now it’s been widely shared on WhatsApp, Twitter, and other social media platforms. A 19-year-old college student filed a complaint after discovering her images being shared on the chatroom. The group members have changed their username after the screenshots became viral. After this incident, a new Instagram page has been created which is named ‘Bois Locker Room 2.0’.
When the chat went viral, the members of the Boys Locker Room threatened to leak nude photographs of the women who leaked out their chats. Many of the group members deactivated their social media profiles when the leaked screenshots went public. Also, some of the female friends of the group members are defending them by saying that the boys have been falsely accused by the other girls.
A Facebook spokesperson said, “We absolutely do not allow behavior that promotes sexual violence or exploits anyone, especially women and young people, and have actioned content violating our Community Standards as we were made aware of it. We have policies that disallow the sharing of non-consensual intimate imagery, as well as threats to share such imagery and we take this issue very seriously. Ensuring our community can express themselves in a safe and respectful way is our top priority.”
Actions taken against the group
An FIR following a complaint about a private Instagram group has been lodged by the Delhi Police Cyber Cell. The police cyber cell has also asked about the details of the accounts that were members of the group from Instagram. However, Instagram has not responded to the controversy yet.
The police have taken a Delhi schoolboy into custody on Monday, 4 May over the controversial Instagram chat group ‘Boys Locker Room’. 20 more members have been identified who were active in this group.
